The next advertising phenomenon - car wrap ads
Posted by Mark 27 August 2007
Why do people keep saying, "Only in America"?
Here's a reason why.
Car owners can now earn up to $800 per month to have their car wrapped in advertising for a major brand.
Tens of thousands of motorists have signed-up so far and the trend looks set to expand.
One example cited is Proctor and Gamble who might want to promote a washing powder to a defined market, say full-time mothers with two children.
They will pay to use the mothers' cars to promote their brand in target areas by raising visibility and acceptance as those moms drop their kids off or visit the gym.
A study has shown that a single vehicle can be seen by as many as 70,000 motorists and pedestrians per day.
Those who sign up for the deal must attend classes where they learn the rules, such as proper behaviour while they are with their vehicle, or places they may not visit such as a competitor brand's venue.
Someone promoting a Coca-Cola product, for example, must not be seen parked at KFC or Pizza Hut because they serve Pepsi exclusively.
They also have to make regular reports and take photos to show where their car has been seen.
The cars need to be less than five years old and large enough for the advertising wrap, which is a plastic film with a Post-it like glue that doesn't harm the paintwork.
It looks like banner ads all over again, on cars but not on web sites.
Now, if only someone can solve the problem of how to make pay-per-click work.
