Telegraph vs BBC, who is telling the truth?

Posted by Mark 23 Jun 2007

I woke up this morning to the Today programme proudly announcing a sweeping victory for Blair at the EU summit. That's never a good start to the day. All I want is out, not to be listening to the BBC Party-line about how wonderful Europe is and how Blair is our hero. So I listened with grim resignation. On reading my paper, however, it has a different slant on events. Blair has handed over "swathes of power" to Brussels and the truce between him and Brown is effectively ended. Worse yet, the French are cock-a-hoop with the outcome. That is never good, not on any occasion. Now I know there are other blogs discussing what was handed over and what was not, that's not what I wish to raise here. I am concerned about the editorial bias of the BBC. I have read what appear to be balanced reports from BBC reporters, but the slanting of the news is heavy-handed and obvious.

My proposition is that we should choose who receives our License Fee. Just like when you're in a trade union and you can choose what political party should receive your political levy, so we should be able to choose whether it is the BBC or the Telegraph (or even Playboy) that receives our TV Licensing Fee, hereafter called the Media Licensing Fee.
