Don't Mention the War. Oops, the Poles just did

Posted by Mark 21 Jun 2007

Poland has got the EU Summit off to a difficult start by complaining that the new voting system proposed by Germany disadvantages them because it doesn't take into account Poland's war dead. At five million, it works out as a higher proportion than other country's. Frankly, there are so many inconsistencies and distortions in the EU that it seems to me this issue should just join the queue. Does it really matter if Poland gets a fractional increase in voting rights when far greater issues will remain unresolved and Poland is still going to be outvoted whether they have the proposed voting power or a tiny increase? Of course not, and that applies to us too. We have little or no say in what Europe gets up to, little or no say in what the EU does to this country. We and Poland could have double the votes we have now and it won't make any difference. We should simply leave now, and that's my advice to Poland, get out now before it's too late.
